The Boasting Letter – Our 2024

Do you remember The Christmas Letter? Or as my Mum called it, The Boasting Letter? You open a Christmas card from someone you haven’t spoken to in years, and out falls a long, typed and carbon copied, sickening spiel of their children’s successes.  Kid 1 got into Oxford, Kid 2 Captained the Hockey Team and all whilst the Dad, always the Dad, secured an amazing promotion.  Thankfully those days seem to have passed but it doesn’t hurt to reflect on successes sometimes, and I haven’t talked about the Actual Day Job much recently, so here are a few things we’ve achieved at Samphire Marketing + Web Ltd this year….

  • Rebuilt, mostly rewrote and fully updated 3 websites that were really getting creaky for St Austell Printing Company, St Austell Conference Centre and St Austell Business Park to future proof them, improve their SEO and make them a lot easier to manage. A real team effort.
  • Helped two e-commerce brands we work with, who have both had a very challenging year, drive a steady stream of income through their Google Ads, so they could keep their heads above water and focus on other parts of their businesses.
  • Added a new SEO and Google Ads Specialist to our team, thanks to a connection made through the fantastic Women in Tech SEO Community (thanks Areej!).
  • Worked with a hospitality client to get their new gift shop up and running online, so that it is now trading well for Christmas. This involved setting up and optimising Google and Meta Shopping ads and working on their SEO, so their shop listings come up organically from a standing start.
  • Wrote, developed and are now teaching a brand-new course for Truro and Penwith College for their Multichannel Marketer Apprenticeship.
  • Wrote, developed and taught a new AI in Marketing Workshop for Truro and Penwith College, to keep their Marketing Apprentices up to date.
  • Reorganised the Cookie Management set up for a whole bunch of clients, to bring them up to the standard required for Google Consent Mode 2.
  • Implemented and managed Black Friday Sale promos on Google Ads, Microsoft Ads and Meta Ads for what feels like the most competitive Black Friday ever for several e-commerce clients. Managed the lack of a discounted offer for other brands who have chosen not to participate through this tricky and expensive advertising period.
  • Helped a local CIC get its two websites and multiple Social Media channels back under control and up to date after a lengthy period without management.
  • Spent time with the CFO of one of our larger brands to make sure they fully understand our reports, how bidding and budget management actually works across the Google, Microsoft and Meta Ads, and are happy with the KPIs we work to.
  • Oh and Scratchie won the Village Dog Show, officially the (Joint) Best Dog in St Keverne, with a Highly Commended for his attempt at Best Trick.

Happy Christmas everyone. Do get in touch if you’ve got a problem we can help with in 2025.

Google Adwords

From the early days of advertising our family’s holiday house on the Helford, to conversations with the large rental agencies we now work with – the questions remain the same. How does a local business compete on search advertising with international brands bidding on the same keywords? The good news is that keyword targeting is […]
