Website Development Case Study

Rebuilding, updating and migrating 3 WordPress sites for St Austell Printing Company, Conference Centre and Business Park

SAPC New Website

Almost ten years ago, when Sam was managing Electric Dialogue, one of those London agencies where the team looked more like a boy band, we were very lucky to be awarded the contract to build a new website for St Austell Printing Company.  The project took a year or so, as the site was coded from scratch and fully bespoke with lots of content. It eventually launched in 2016 and since then, first as Electric Dialogue and then as Samphire Marketing, we’ve been responsible for looking after it.

Fast forward to 2024 and the code we wrote ten years ago wasn’t quite keeping up with everyone else’s development.  SAPC loved their site layout, colours and branding but the hard coding was making it tricky and slow to keep things up to date.  Making sure the site was still optimised for SEO and worked well with new technologies had also become a challenge.  We got our heads together, in one of the stunning meeting rooms at St Austell Conference Centre and managed to avoid just staring at the incredible view of St Austell Bay long enough to come up with a plan.

A few months later and we’re very happy to say we have fully rebuilt and relaunched not just the SAPC site, but also the St Austell Conference Centre and St Austell Business Park sites on an entirely new WordPress platform (Elementor) that is now much more future proof, far easier to add to and edit, and super speedy, which is helping their SEO.

Along the way, we reviewed and edited the content to take away any aging references, refreshed some imagery, made sure all the sites were compliant with Google Consent Mode, optimised for SEO and fixed anything that had broken over the years. We also moved all three onto more modern, stable, fast, eco-friendly and cost efficient hosting.

Perhaps not the flashiest of “hey, we built a major website” announcements – as the new sites looks a LOT like the old ones, but that was the brief, and we were very much part of the original design – and we’re proud of it!

We continue to help all three of the SAPC businesses with their Google Ads, Blogs, marketing impact reporting and other tactics, alongside their creative agency Idenna.

Many thanks to Peter, Beth and all the team at SAPC for being such great clients and friends over the years.

If your site needs an update, you’re working with an ancient clunky editor, things have slowed down, Search Engines just don’t seem to like you, or indeed, you would like something completely new, do get in touch!

Whilst Ross (Developer), Dom (Content) and I (Dev, Content, SEO) look more like a geek squad than a boy band, we’d be happy to help.  Sam

GDPR 1 Year On

One year ago, we were all frantically “re-permissioning” our own email lists and receiving hundreds of mails asking us to confirm our consent to hear from the companies we shop with.  12 months on, I thought I’d take a look on the impact of the General Data Protection Regulations, from the marketer’s perspective and how […]
